ANBOC 2012 - Registrations Open!

ABODA is proud to announce that the ABODA QLD Branch will host the 2012 Australian National Band and Orchestra Conference (ANBOC2012) on Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July. Plans and bookings are well underway for this major conference at the Edmund Rice Performing Arts Centre of St Laurence's College, Brisbane.

The ANBOC2012 program is designed for school, community band, and orchestra directors at all levels. The conference includes conducting master classes, forums to explore repertoire, rehearsal techniques, and instrument pedagogy, and additional opportunities to discover the latest in music technology.

Brisbane QBOC 2010 Completed

QBOC ended on Sunday 11 July 2010. General conference details are archived by ABODA Queensland at http://abodaq.org.au/qboc2010.

QBOC was an excellent success on all fronts. In particular, the ABODA 25th Anniversary dinner was a unique chance to look back on our achievements since 1986.

Ongoing event reports and updates were graciously provided by Craig Dabelstein at http://abodaq.org.au/tag/qboc2010/

Joint Web Projects Go Active

During the fourth quarter of 2009, ABODA Western Australia and ABODA Victoria/Tasmania began the process of upgrading web services and content. Their "change of face" on the web was mostly due to the volunteer hours put in by officers of each branch. ABODA National has supported each project by providing physical assets and administrative assistance for the uprades.

2009 Maestro Delivered to Members

In the first week of December, ABODA National distributed its final physical copy of Maestro, the ABODA National Newsletter. The end-of-year project was a true bipartisan undertaking between National and State organizations. National President Mathers finalized the content, Craig Dabelstein (QLD) completed the layout, and Victoria branch provided both hard materials and Print Post facilities. Each State Branch also provided branch update articles and helped confirm contact details for posting the issue to members.

ANBOC 2010 Planning Ceases

During the ABODA National Board Meeting on Sunday 2 August 2009, the ABODA National Board Members continued a significant discussion of the ongoing Australian National Band and Orchestra Clinic (ANBOC) 2010 plans. At the end of the discussion, the Board made the difficult decision to withdraw support for the planning of ANBOC 2010. President Mathers followed this decision with a formal request that the Steering Committee cease planning.

ABODA Festivals and Events (August 2009)

Each year, the individual ABODA State Branches contribute to music festivals around the country. Aside from just attending these events with their own school, community, and professional ensembles, ABODA members and Officers take an active role as festival administrators, tutors, adjudicators, and hands-on-deck.

Review: National Board Meeting 2 August 2009

The National Board met as a mixed in-person and teleconference meeting on Sunday 2 August 2009. Many topics from the recent, July 19 meetings made the agenda and received significant consideration. Actions of the Board included:

Review: AGM and National Board Meetings July 2009

On Sunday 19 July, 2009, ABODA held both its regular National Board Meeting and Annual General Meeting as part of the Victorian Sounds Great Conference. The proceedings were well attended by both National Officers and State Members. Neil Coy (WA, WA President) could not appear at the conference in person, but made important contributions by teleconferencing on Skype.
