Graduate Assistantships
in Conducting for 2010
University of North Carolina at Greensboro
School of Music
DMA Conducting Assistantships
MM Conducting Assistantships
Dear Andrew,
We are writing to remind that applicants for graduate study in conducting at the UNCG School of Music beginning for the Fall Semester 2010 need to have completed files by the end of January 2010. We anticipate having two or three Graduate Assistantships in Wind Conducting. Our conducting studio size is not large and it is highly selective. Degree candidates have outstanding opportunities to conduct concert bands and chamber ensembles including the UNCG University Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Casella Sinfonietta. Graduate Assistants in the School of Music also may be assigned to teach courses aligned with their experience. Our record of success with the placement of graduates in full-time university-level positions following graduation is outstanding.
The UNCG School of Music enrolls 600 music majors, including 200 graduate students. The facilities at UNCG are superb and our reputation for musical excellence is well known across the country. Greensboro is a beautiful place to live and UNCG will host the CBDNA National Convention in 2013.
We are interested in making a connection with current college and university conductors, your most talented Masters Degree conducting graduates or experienced teachers holding MM degrees in Music Education, who would be interested in beginning a DMA Degree in Instrumental Conducting in the Fall Semester 2010. Successful teaching experience and advanced skills in conducting and rehearsing are key requisites.
We're equally interested in indentifying talented and successful teachers who wish to begin an MM Degree in Instrumental Conducting in the Fall Semester 2010.
Admission to both the MM degree and the DMA degree is competitive and highly selective. At most, we enroll only three graduate wind conducting majors at any given time. This offers each student a great deal of personal interaction with our faculty and a significant amount of podium time with our major ensembles. The application process is also demanding and requires video recordings and other evidence of advanced skills prior to being invited for a live audition with one of the UNCG Bands.
Conducting students at UNCG will be afforded the opportunity to study with Dr. Kevin M. Geraldi, Associate Director or Bands and Director of Orchestras, as well as with me.
Please consider referring your most talented students to our program and please forward this email to them.
Interested applicants may contact me by email at lockej@uncg.edu or call me toll-free at 1-800-999-2869.
The application process must be completed by the end of January 2010.
Additional information is provided below.
Sincerely,
John R. Locke, Professor
