Joint Web Projects Go Active
During the fourth quarter of 2009, ABODA Western Australia and ABODA Victoria/Tasmania began the process of upgrading web services and content. Their "change of face" on the web was mostly due to the volunteer hours put in by officers of each branch. ABODA National has supported each project by providing physical assets and administrative assistance for the uprades.
In January 2010, wa.aboda.org.au went 'live' as a support system for ABODA members and programs in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. ABODA WA has plans to leverage the site in distributing, collecting, and organizing information on the music festivals organized and administered by ABODA WA.
vic.aboda.org.au opened in mid-February. It began with standard contacts and historical resources, but has already expanded to include information on upcoming professional development opportunities for Victoria and Tasmania. One priority for Victoria is the continued planning and design of a membership and communication system that minimizes the physical work load of the Branch Committee Membership Officer.
Like at www.aboda.org.au, officers in each Branch also use these web systems as a clearinghouse for otherwise homeless electronic documents and information.
The WA and VIC programs have the potential to influence how ABODA and other organizations operate in the long term: maximising and sharing limited resources, reducing administrative hours, and communicating more efficiently within and across Branches. ABODA National looks forward to seeing how these and other efforts pay off in the months and years ahead.
ABODA NSW, ABODA Q, and ABODA SA also keep active web sites for activities in their own regions. ABODA members and non-members are encouraged to stay in contact with ABODA regarding upcoming events and opportunities. Professional events and opportunities suit many levels of music directors, conductors, administrators, and performers.
