ANBOC 2010 Planning Ceases
During the ABODA National Board Meeting on Sunday 2 August 2009, the ABODA National Board Members continued a significant discussion of the ongoing Australian National Band and Orchestra Clinic (ANBOC) 2010 plans. At the end of the discussion, the Board made the difficult decision to withdraw support for the planning of ANBOC 2010. President Mathers followed this decision with a formal request that the Steering Committee cease planning.
Each member of the Board expressed their gratitude to President Elect Yeung and the ANBOC Steering Committee for their hard work in carrying the project to its current state. The Board could not reach a consensus on a variety of topics surrounding ANBOC, however. The members voted to withdraw National support rather than risk long-term conflict over the event.
Although significant ground was covered in preparation for ANBOC 2010, financial investment by ABODA National was near negligible. No outstanding monetary debts remain. President Elect Yeung and the Steering Committee are contacting engaged clinicians and suppliers to inform them of the change, and to express ABODA's thanks for their commitment to the now cancelled project.
Despite this news, the ANBOC 2010 planning brought to fruition two major sub-projects. The first was President Elect Yeung's detailed planning and development of the ABODA National Web Site (this page, www.aboda.org.au). The second was his effort to redesign the new national logo and integrate it's three components: the acronymn, the name of the organization, and the icon with hands and the letter "A". The National Board has given support to these projects, and ABODA extends its sincere thanks to BAT Design for their assistance with each of these two developments.
Immediately upcoming projects for ABODA National include other efforts to unify State and National communication, understanding, and purposes. Aside from the existing logo and web projects, the Board looks forward to a physical edition of Maestro, the addition of WA's own subdomain at wa.aboda.org.au, and an integrated National Events Calendar. These and other future projects will be discussed at the next National Board meeting in October 2009.
If you have further questions regarding the cancellation of ANBOC 2010, please direct your inquiry to Roland Yeung, President Elect and Convenor of the Steering Committee, or the National Secretary.
